Many years ago, when I was a little less jaded with the Internet Marketing world, I signed up for a webinar that a well-known coach (who shall remain nameless) was doing.

She talked it up to her email list for a week, and when the day arrived I logged in with my notepad and pen in hand, eager to soak up some good stuff to help my business.

The webinar started and the first ten minutes were spent with the coach doing a little chit-chat, talking about how great she was, and sharing a whole bunch of testimonials.

Ok, I get that she wanted to establish her credibility – I can’t fault her for that.

But then another ten minutes were spent doing the same stuff, with some hints about all the great things attendees were going to learn on the webinar.

By about the 40 minute mark, the build-up and teasing showed no sign of letting up and I looked down at my notepad.

The virgin page remained blank, as we learned nothing up until that point (I guess I could have written: “__ is the best-darn, most successful coach in the history of mankind!”).

I left the webinar then, disappointed at wasting 40 minutes of my life that I’d never get back.

Unfortunately that coach isn’t alone with her webinar strategy, and I suspect that’s why live attendance for webinars has dropped and a lot of people are getting turned off by them.

Most webinars seem to be the same old, same old: a ton of fluff and filler, very little value (if any at all), and a heavy sales pitch at the end.

And there’s the obligatory rags-to-riches story, about the host going from living in a dumpster and drinking sewer water to making a billion dollars a year.

What I’m teaching comes from over 10 years in the online coaching space, and as I was preparing it I thought back to how I felt attending that one years ago and promised myself that I would do mine differently.
