As old-fashioned as a drive-in theatre

I took my son Gray to the drive-in theatre last weekend to watch “Angry Birds 2”.

I love drive-ins and feel a lot of nostalgia around them since I went a lot as a kid (I’m crossing my fingers and hoping they make a comeback, like vinyl records did …)

Drive-ins aren’t everyone’s cup of tea: you have to deal with mosquitos, and there’s usually an idiot or two who leave their headlights on.

And don’t get me started on the mile-long lineup of cars when it’s time to leave …

But it’s the uniqueness of drive-ins that makes them appealing. For example:

  • Gray packed the vehicle to the ceiling with pillows and blankets, and he liked being able to sit in the passenger seat since he can’t usually do that.
  • He also liked going to the canteen before the show, and the selection of food and drinks are different than the usual fare at the main theatre.
  • We both liked that we could talk to each other during the movie and laugh as loud as we wanted to without worrying about distracting others or getting shhhhhhh’d.

Call me old-fashioned for liking drive-ins, but I’m all for things that are a little different …
